Curious what you get served on a longhaul flight with Airberlin between NYC and Berlin when you order a vegan meal? Find out in this post!
Hello hello! As most of you will know, I’m back in Austria. Which also meant that I had quite the long plane ride back over the big pond and I figured, why not do a return flight edition, to my first Longhaul Flight Food – AirBerlin Vegan Edition post. Again, a little disclaimer, this is NOT sponsored (I wish! 😀 ), I just think it would be useful for people to get an idea what they might get on an AirBerlin long haul flight if they pre-order a vegan meal.
This time it was an overnight flight, so we got dinner and breakfast on the plane. Before we even got our dinner (if I remember correctly) I was already really pleasantly surprised by what the flight attendants handed out to everyone – a little cute amenity kit! Keep in mind, I was flying economy class. I had never gotten one before, even when I was on a plane by so called ‘premium’ airlines, which I don’t want to name right now ;).
This little kit consisted of cozy socks, a sleeping mask, ear plugs and a travel toothbrush and toothpaste. How nice is this? I had brought cozy socks on the plane, but decided to wear the provided ones and they kept my feet nice and warm 😉 (yes, I washed them since…). The sleeping mask also came in handy, as my neighbor had the reading light on for most of the night. So yay, for this little kit.
But now on to the real topic of the post – the vegan food that was served on the flight. First off, I can tell you that I liked it. It was nothing fancy, but again really good tasting food. Dinner was rice, spinach and a really nicely seasoned zucchini and eggplant stir fry with tomato sauce. It was accompanied by a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, corn and potatoes, a little fruit salad consisting of melons and strawberry and a wholegrain roll with margarine. The only teeeeeeny tiny thing that I would have added here, would have been some vinegraitte again for the salad. But oh my, that’s being a bit nit-picky. 😉
After dinner we also got an additional 0,5 l water bottle, which was a nice gesture. The next morning, breakfast was simple, but good and quite healthy:
A quite nice portion of fruit, orange juice and a wholegrain roll with margarine. Like I said, nothing fancy but good and on the healthy side. I was honestly happy with my food, and my neighbor looked kind of jealous – she especially eyed my fruits 😀
So, after those two flights, I can definitely recommend AirBerlin for vegan meals, at least on long haul flights like mine (Berlin – NYC). I hope I’m not going to jinx it and get something inedible next time, but I’m quite positive that the quality should stay the same if they have a certain standard already. 🙂
