Summer Holidays in Croatia (a little bit of nostalgia)

Do you guys have places that you used to go to a lot as a child? I do. For me it’s Croatia, to be more precisely, the region of Istria. I used to go there at least once a year for a long summer vacation with my parents. Medulin, where we used to go to a lot, is a mere 5 hour drive from where I live, so it was really convenient. Beach holidays didn’t happen for me this year, but let me take you back with me to some of my spots from the last time I was there.

You might wonder how all of a sudden I get so nostalgic? Well, apart from that literally half of my friends ARE in Croatia right now enjoying the sea, I also did some deal-researching for an upcoming trip later in this year (I’m going to tell you more about it soon!). While doing this, I happened to click through to the travel section about Croatia on Mistake! Even if you don’t speak German, just click through the pictures in the slider, and you know why I got nostalgic! So I figured, as a little mid-week mental vacation (or probably I’m just mean and want to itch your travel bug, so that we are both in the same boat!), let me share some of my favorite pictures from former trips to Medulin, Croatia with you.

There isn’t a ton to do there – it’s really pretty much a quiet beach town, but that is what made it always so relaxing for us. We usually went camping with our RV, and the campsite there is located in a gorgeous pine forest on a mini peninsula. One side of the beach is sand and perfect for when you are little and the other side has more rocks and cliffs, which is beautiful if you want to go snorkeling…okay, I’m starting to sound too much like a travel agent, wanting to sell you a package, so I better stop! πŸ˜€ But I’m honest, those quiet beach days in Croatia were gorgeous. I miss them πŸ™‚

Come say hi on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram! Those are the places where you first read about my travels, the food and all the things that inspire me.

P.S. I enjoyed taking pictures of my food there already as well – and that was waaaaay before I knew Instagram existed – those pics are from 2010 πŸ˜‰

  1. We didn’t (couldn’t) do any traveling and I’ve still never been off the East Coast of the US, but every year we would take out September trip down to Wildwood and Cape May, NJ (never left NJ much either) haha! But it’s my favorite place, so many memories!

    1. Memories can connect us so much to places! Are you far away from New York City? We could meet up the next time I’m there! πŸ™‚

        1. Oh, that isn’t far away! Well, if you’re up for it, we could see if it works out the next time I’m there πŸ™‚

  2. This looks like such a beautiful vacation, Kat! πŸ™‚ I’ve never been to Croatia, but it’s definitely on my list (which is getting longer and longer! Haha!). I’ll be in Thailand in a couple of weeks, so I’m really looking forward to that. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you so much, Sina! Croatia is such a nice country to visit – I really enjoy the sea there (I prefer it to Italy, to be honest). I’m sure Thailand will be great – I’ve never been there!

  3. When I was younger, we would drive down to California. My step dad has family in the north, and my mom has family in the South, so it’s a long exciting journey all the way from Vegas. And then I married a California native. Although were based in the Philippines right now, it seems like California will be my next home. Anyway, I feel like I just went on a mental vacation with you in this photos! Lovely.

    1. Oh, this sounds like a wonderful (if long) road-trip you did! I’ve never been to California, but this might change this fall. I would love to drive down the coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles, it’s supposed to be so beautiful. And I’m glad you enjoyed the photos πŸ™‚

  4. Wow that looks so calm and peaceful, what a lovely place to vacation! And the food looked delicious!

    1. Thank you so much, Stacey! It really is so calm there <3 I really love the food there, it's usually very fresh and tasty.

    1. Thank you Haley! Croatia is really a beautiful country with a very diverse scenery – you can have everything from gorgeous beach towns, to cities to mountains and lakes! It’s definitely worth a trip (or more ;-)).

  5. This looks amazing! My mom went to Croatia along with several other places in Europe last fall, and she said Croatia was definitely the most beautiful.

    1. Oh yes, Croatia is sure one of the most beautiful places in Europe – although I guess I’m very much in love with Spain and Portugal too πŸ˜‰ Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Thank you Audrey, it’s really a very peaceful little place that we usually went to πŸ™‚ I hope too, that you get the chance to travel around Europe and include Croatia!
