Pumpkin Pie Smoothie (vegan, gluten-free)

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie - delicious, vegan, gluten-free, no sugar added and a paleo option! | curlsnchard.com

Pumpkin season is starting, but I’m still craving cool drinks – so why not try a Pumpkin Pie Smoothie? My version is vegan, gluten-free and can easily be made paleo as well. But the most important thing: it tastes delicious! And it has actually pumpkin in it, not just the spice.

Who doesn’t love to sneak some veggies into smoothies that you can hardly detect? Please use real pumpkin puree or roast and puree the pumpkin yourself, not pumpkin pie filling. The pre-made filling is full of sugar and unnecessary nasties that you really don’t need for this delicious Pumpkin Pie Smoothie. You might wonder where I took the picture, as it’s obviously outside. Well, I actually went to a nearby park! People were definitely giving me stares, walking up the block with all the stuff and even more all the people who had gathered in the park for some kind of morning sport. Oh yeah. I guess they wanted some of that pumpkin pie smoothie too! 😉

Can you believe that last fall was the first time I ever had pumpkin pie? Yep. It’s just not a thing in Austria – we usually just eat it savory. Well, I’m  a pumpkin convert. I loved pumpkin pie spice all along already, as it’s practically the same as ginger bread spice in Austria. This pumpkin pie smoothie is my tribute to this pie that converted me into a pumpkin loving person! Please read the notes of the recipe to find out how to make this smoothie paleo.

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie (vegan, gluten-free)
Serves: 2
  • 2 heaping tbsp pumpkin puree
  • 2 frozen bananas
  • 1 cup coconut milk (light)
  • 2 tbsp oats
  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice
  • maple syrup to taste (optional)
  1. Add all the ingredients except from the maple syrup into a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Try to smoothie to check the sweetness and add maple syrup to taste (or leave it out completely if you already enjoy the flavor). Enjoy!
To make this smoothie paleo, omit the oats. You could try adding in shredded coconut, so you have more texture to the smoothie (it will change the taste a bit).
Add chia seeds for added thickness and health benefits!
If you add more oats, it will be more filling and also hold you over longer if you eat it for breakfast.

I hope you enjoy this recipe, so if you do, please share it with your friends! Also, stay up to date with me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. If you would like to get a glimpse in my life here in New York City, follow me on Snapchat! I’m curlsnchard there. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Jasmine! It’s really easy to make this smoothie and I really try to keep ingredients as simple as I can while still using “real” food 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Kerstin! I love pumpkin everything too – in Austria you might just need to roast your own pumpkin instead of using puree. At least I’ve never found pumpkin puree there 🙂

  2. So delicious! I love pumpkin in savory dishes too. It’s actually an incredibly versatile veggie. And that is too funny about the park!

    1. Hahaha, I know, right? 😉 What we don’t do for our blog! I really love that pumpkin is so versatile 🙂

    1. Me too! I was always mystified what it is until I came here to the USA. Then I realized it’s the same what we call gingerbread spice 😀

  3. Yum, yum, yum! The easiest and fastest way to pumpkin pie 🙂 I love that you went to the park for pics too haha! I often take pictures out on my porch and get lots of funny looks from neighbors. Funny or jealously hungry 😉

    1. Thank you so much, Natalie! It definitely is a super fast way to a pumpkin pie 🙂 Hahaha, I bet your neighbors wonder what you are up to! I think they are jealous and hungry 😉

  4. WOAH!! Where did you find pumpkin puree? I’ve been looking around in a couple of store, but can’t find it so far. This smoothie sounds super tasty 😀

    1. Ahh, I got it here in the US at Trader Joe’s. Haven’t found it in Austria (or Germany for that matter) so far – sorry! But you could roast butternut squash and make your own puree, that’s what I do at home 🙂 Thank you Howie!

    1. That’s so great, Michelle! Did you have time to give the recipe a try? I would love to hear your feedback 🙂
